AMY ALLIBON, head director




2013-14 marks Amy Allibon’s fifth year as Head Director of the Singing Hawks and her 25th year of teaching. Mrs. Allibon began her career at Watauga Middle School in 1989 where she taught four years.  From 1992-96, she taught at Crockett Middle School in Irving where her Varsity Treble Choir performed for the Texas Music Educators Association in 1996.  In the fall of 1996, she accepted the position as Associate Director of choirs at Haltom High School, and the following year, was named the Head Director.  During her 12 years at Haltom, the Varsity Treble Choir performed for TMEA in 2000 and National American Choral Directors Association in 2001, and the A cappella Choir performed for TMEA in 2008.  Since coming to BHS in 2009, Mrs. Allibon has been rebuilding the program to 200 singers in 9 different ensembles who continue to consistently earn UIL Sweepstakes, and who earn one of the highest numbers of students in the All District, Region, and All State choirs in Region V. After two years of vigorous preparation, the BHS Chorale has been chosen as an honor choir to perform for the 2013 Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio.  


Mrs. Allibon is a Past President of the Texas Choral Directors Association having recently completed seven years of service on the Board. She served TMEA as the Region 5 High School Vocal Division Secretary, Chair-Elect, and Chair. She has also been a TMEA All-State Choir section leader for the Mixed and Treble Choirs. She is the recipient of the 2002 Haltom High Teacher of the Year Award, 2003 James Whitehead Coca Cola Outstanding Educator Award, 2003 Outstanding Music Alumni from Texas Tech Award, and the 2008 Score-A-Goal in the Classroom Bayard Friedman Hero Award.  A frequent clinician and adjudicator, she has conducted Region Choirs throughout Texas, Nebraska, and Connecticut, and has conducted All State Choirs in Arkansas and South Carolina. She will conduct the Oklahoma All State Treble Choir in 2014.  She has been on staff at the TCU Choir Camp for fifteen years, and has enjoyed teaching other camps periodically throughout the state.  Mrs. Allibon holds a Bachelors of Music Education from TCU and a Masters in Music/Choral Conducting from Texas Tech.  She lives in an historic neighborhood in Fort Worth and spends any spare time restoring her 1920’s home with her husband of 23 years, Rob.  Mrs. Allibon loves to travel, read, ski, shop, and spend time with family and friends when she’s not directing a choir.
